Independence 250 Concert on the Fourth followed by fireworks in Townsend.

(TOWNSEND, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE — The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with an evening of patriotic music, historical exhibits and family activities during its Independence 250 Concert on the Fourth on Saturday, July 4.

The celebration will take place at the Heritage Center’s covered amphitheater, featuring a 45-piece American concert band, a Revolutionary War-era exhibit, patriotic tributes and interactive activities for families.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Overflow seating will be available on the lawn, and the first 300 attendees will receive complimentary American flags.

The concert will be led by internationally recognized conductor Danny Griffin and will include marches by John Philip Sousa, patriotic selections and a musical tribute honoring active-duty military members and veterans. Organizers say additional elements throughout the evening are designed to create an immersive experience celebrating the nation’s founding.

The program is expected to conclude with enough time for guests to travel to downtown Townsend for the community’s annual Independence Day fireworks display.

“We aim for a moving, sensory and participatory experience that delivers a rousing tribute to 18th-century American founders, the world-changing declaration they created and the very birth of the nation we cherish,” said Francis Graffeo, CEO of the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. “We encourage families to bring the kids and celebrate the Fourth of July with us before heading into downtown Townsend to enjoy the community fireworks.”

Admission is a suggested $10 donation benefiting the nonprofit Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. The museum features regional history exhibits, an authentic Appalachian village with 18 historic structures, Indigenous peoples exhibits, educational programming and live music events throughout the year.
