Haywood County’s newest outdoor destination features a pump track, bike skills course, adventure playground and more for riders of all ages.
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. — After years of planning and construction, Haywood County’s newest outdoor recreation destination is ready to welcome its first visitors.
Haywood County Recreation and Parks will celebrate the grand opening of Raccoon Creek Bike Park on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The new park, located on Francis Farm Road in the Town of Waynesville, is designed to provide a place for outdoor recreation while preserving green space for future generations.
The celebration marks the completion of the park’s first phase, which was funded through a combination of grants from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) and the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), along with Haywood County funding and support from community partners including the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority and Mountain Credit Union.
Visitors attending the grand opening will be among the first to ride the park’s new pump track and bike skills course. The event will also feature free Kona Ice for the first 200 guests, live music from a DJ, local food trucks, a kids’ zone with a bounce house and lawn games, and other family-friendly activities.
The first phase of Raccoon Creek Bike Park includes:
- A bike pump track
- A bike skills course
- A walking and biking path
- An adventure playground
- Picnic pavilions
- Additional open green space
Organizers say the park is designed for riders of all ages and experience levels, from young children on balance bikes to experienced cyclists looking to sharpen their skills.
Anyone planning to ride is reminded that helmets are required while using the bike track.
The grand opening is free to attend, and families are encouraged to bring their bikes and spend the day exploring Haywood County’s newest outdoor adventure destination.
