New adidas alternate honors 100 years since Gen. Robert Neyland’s first season as Tennessee head coach.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE GameDay Center) — Tennessee football is going back in time this fall with a new uniform honoring one of the most influential figures in Volunteers history.

Tennessee Athletics and adidas announced the Vols will debut a “Smokey Grey” alternate uniform Oct. 3, when Tennessee hosts Auburn at Neyland Stadium.

The 2026 season marks 100 years since Gen. Robert Neyland’s first season as Tennessee’s head coach. The new uniform pays tribute to his legacy and the Tennessee uniforms worn throughout his coaching tenure from 1926 through 1952.

The design incorporates elements from multiple eras of Neyland’s career, including influences from his military background and his impact on Tennessee football both on and off the field.

Tennessee’s in-house creative agency, 151 Creative, worked with adidas to develop the uniform.

The creative campaign was filmed with Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter and included several Neyland historical artifacts, including Neyland’s old desk.

Fans won’t have to wait until October to get their hands on the new look.

“Smokey Grey” adidas merchandise will be available beginning Sept. 1 through retailers and the official Tennessee Athletics online store.

The uniform debut will add another piece of history to the Oct. 3 matchup as the Vols celebrate a century of the Neyland era on Rocky Top.
