Sevierville firefighters will go door to door offering free smoke alarms, safety checks and fire escape planning.
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Sevierville firefighters are taking fire safety directly to the neighborhood this September, offering residents in the Kingfisher Avenue area free smoke alarms and fire safety assistance.
The Sevierville Fire Department will go door to door checking existing residential smoke alarms, installing new alarms when needed and helping families develop a fire escape plan — all at no cost.
Firefighters say working smoke alarms are one of the most important parts of an effective home fire escape plan. Because fires can spread quickly, an operating alarm can provide the early warning needed to get everyone safely outside.

“We will do our best to ensure that no resident in Sevierville goes to sleep without a properly functioning smoke alarm,” Sevierville Fire Department Chief Matt Henderson said.
Residents who aren’t home when firefighters arrive will receive a hanging tag on their door with instructions for scheduling a follow-up visit.
The smoke alarms are being provided through a grant from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with other grant opportunities and funds donated by community partners.
Residents with questions or those needing more information can call 865-453-9276.
The fire department is also encouraging residents to spread the word to family, friends and neighbors in the area so they know to expect firefighters this September.
