(BRYSON CITY, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A wildfire continues to burn near Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountains in the Nantahala Ranger District.
The Wiggins Fire is located 8 miles to the southwest of Bryson City. Friday, the U.S. Forest Service from North Carolina said the size was 80 acres. Total personnel is 140. Containment is at 0%.
Firefighters continue to respond on the ground an din the air with crews, engines and aircraft.
Additional fire crews and engines have arrived Friday afternoon to continue structure protection and work on suppression actions.
Aircraft will be used for water drops. The U.S. Forest Service is in Unified Command with the North Carolina Forest Service (state agency) on this fire.
