(MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Maggie Valley is set to open for a full tourism season this summer all while rebuilding the infrastructure Helene washed away.
According to Interim Town Manager, Sam Cullen, the floods from Helene washed away roads, sewer lines and city park infrastructure and the focus has been to get all that repaired.
“While we are inviting people to come now, our primary focus is on recovery making sure that we give our guests the best experience and our citizens here in town,” said Cullen.

Cullen reminds visitors that even with some roads out in the area, you can still get to Maggie Valley and enjoy Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He said the gorge maybe down to one lane, but there are still ways to get into the valley.
“Come down the Parkway from Virginia, come down Soco Gap and you’re in Maggie Valley. There are several ways. The Gorge has definitely hampered some of our traffic, but we’re hopeful people will explore these other routes,” added Cullen.
Maggie Valley features many creeks and streams for visitors to explore. Just be mindful of the elk that will make an appearance while visiting town.

“Excellent fishing opportunities, fly fishing, spinner fishing and almost 50 percent of our hotels set on the creek with reasonably priced Creekside rooms,” he added. “Good family vacations.”
