(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has announced trail closures for the next several months that will limit routes to the highest point of the Smokies.

Rehabilitation work on Bullhead Trail will begin on May 4. The work will happen in partnership with Friends of the Smokies with the Trails Forever Crew.

Hikers wishing to get to Mount LeConte Mondays through Thursdays until November will have to check other routes. The trail will remain open for hikers on weekends and federal holidays.

FROM THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

Bullhead Trail is one of several routes that lead to Mount Le Conte, offering a challenging 13.6-mile roundtrip hike to the summit. Through this rehabilitation, the park will enhance overall trail safety, repair tread surfaces, improve drainage, regrade areas, construct stairs in areas, and more.
