Starting this week, Wednesdays will be reserved for walkers, bicycles and runners to enjoy the cove without motor vehicles.
(CADES COVE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – It’s the favorite time of year for many who love to visit Cades Cove without the threat of a vehicle. Motorized vehicles are out starting on May 6, 2026.
The closure to vehicles will last through September 30, Visitors can enjoy the 11-mile loop road without cars and its perfect for walker, runner or cyclists planning an adventure.

Vehicle-Free Days at Cades Cove will return on May 6, 2026!
Every Wednesday through September 30, enjoy the 11‑mile Cades Cove Loop Road without motor vehicles! Perfect for walkers, runners, and cyclists.
Whether you are a walker, runner, or cyclist planning your adventure, keep these helpful tips from Great Smoky Mountains National Park in mind:
Bikes only (including Class 1 & 2 e‑bikes). No scooters or skateboards.
Wear a helmet if you’re biking.
Help preserve the Cove’s beauty and keep roads safe! Park only in designated parking spots. If parking is full, you will be asked to return later in the day.
Sleep in! To avoid the morning rush, consider arriving in the afternoon.
Come prepared! Pack plenty of snacks, water, and a first aid kit. There is no cell service in Cades Cove.
