Sevierville Planning Commission voted 2-1 in favor of allowing DR Horton to build phase 1 of a proposed development on Red Bank Road.

(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – There are no other steps for DR Horton to cross through after the Sevierville Planning commission approved what the developer calls phase 1 on Red Bank Road.

DR Horton now has the green light to apply for permits and start building the 223 units of duplexes and townhomes.

The Sevierville Planning Commission heard from several concerned citizens about a proposed housing development in Sevierville on Thursday night.

The commission voted in favor of the PUD request by DR Horton to build 223 total units of duplex and townhomes in what the developer calls phase 1.

Under the plan, all costs for water, sewer and the installation of a red light at Pittman Center Road would be paid for by the developer.

Neighbors speaking out against the proposal say traffic is already out of hand and this would make travel times even longer to get to and from home. They are also concerned about how emergency vehicles would get into the areas during an emergency.

According to the city attorney, he advised the commission they will open themselves up for a lawsuit if they deny the request. The property was already zoned for medium density as the PUD outlined.

Here’s a sample of how the upgrades to Pittman Center Road at Red Bank Road will look when completed. As you can see it would move the entrance and add traffic signals to align with the tubing company across the street.

  1. These men do not have the best interest of the citizens of Sevier Co. I was in bumper to bumper traffic today on 416 and this is BEFORE this Monstrosity is even built.
