Water treatment plant upgrades will cause daytime traffic delays on portions of River Road beginning July 21.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Motorists traveling through downtown Gatlinburg should prepare for periodic delays as the Gatlinburg Utilities Department begins work tied to upgrades at the city’s water treatment plant.

A lane closure will be in effect in the 900 block of River Road on July 21, July 23 and July 27 through July 31. Construction crews will work daily from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The project is part of ongoing improvements to the Gatlinburg Water Treatment Plant.

Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles through the work zone, but drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible.

The Smokies.LIVE Travel Center reminds motorists to slow down, watch for changing traffic patterns and lane shifts, obey posted signage and remain alert for crews working along the roadway.
