Knoxville development partners are asking for qualified development teams to transform 15 acres along the South Knoxville waterfront.
(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – What is seen as the most significant remaining riverfront sites in Knoxville, city leaders are looking to interested developers to give an idea of what it would look like across from the University of Tennessee campus.
There’s about 15 acres, or six parcels, that create 1400 linear feet of riverfront space in South Knoxville.
According to Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation, neighbors in the area asked for walkable mixed-use development that strengthens South Knoxville’s connection to the river front.
“We’re excited to move forward to redevelop this site and realize goals shaped by South Knoxville residents and the overall community,” said Ben Bentley, CEO and executive director for KCDC. “We’re seeking a qualified master developer with experience in urban, mixed-use waterfront developments, ideally multi-story residential with ground-floor opportunities.”
Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation (KCDC), in partnership with the City of
Knoxville, has launched a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process seeking qualified
development teams to transform approximately 15 acres along the South Knoxville waterfront,
considered one of Knoxville’s most significant remaining riverfront sites.
Planning began in 2005 when the City of Knoxville initiated a 20-year plan for the revitalization and preservation of the South Waterfront. Since then, the plan has been revised based on community feedback.
Developer selection is a two-step process, beginning with the RFQ, for which responses are due by 11 a.m. on Aug. 7.
