(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Roads have started to reopen after a weekend of winter weather left roads covered in snow and ice.

The National Park Service said crews were assessing roadways and working to get the ice removed. Lower elevation roadways reopened on Tuesday, with the park service saying higher elevations would take longer.

Many roads, especially at higher elevations, remain covered in ice.

Newfound Gap Road remains closed. The Gatlinburg Bypass is open.

Also closed, Little River Road; Cades Cove Loop Road; All sections of Foothills Parkway.

Visitor Center hours for 1/28:

Oconaluftee Visitor Center: Opens at 9:00 AM

Sugarlands Visitor Center: Opens at 9:00 AM

Cable Mill Visitor Center: Opens at 10:00 AM

Cades Cove Loop Road will open by 9:00 AM on 1/28. Visitors are encouraged to be cautious as there is still snow and ice on the roads.
