(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Road crews in Sevier County say they are ready for the winter weather threat.

Meanwhile, Sevier County Schools said they would be closed on Thursday.

In Gatlinburg, they have 450 tons of salt in stock. The Street Department also has 7 snow trucks that have plows, salt spreaders and are fueled up and ready to go. The Street Department has crews on standby if needed to treat roads if conditions warrant. 

The Gatlinburg Police Department has 4WD vehicles and other vehicles that have chains on them if conditions warrant. 

Currently, the Pigeon Forge Street Department is preparing all of the fleet for snow and ice removal. They are ensuring that the salt spreaders and plows are ready. 

A Sevier County Spokesperson said crews are on standby and have 3,000 tons of salt on hand if needed.
