(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – After investing millions to upgrade trash cans and dumpsters to be bear proof, Gatlinburg now plans an educational day to show residents, businesses and visitors about living with the bears.
An open house is planned on Wednesday, March 18, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg.
The event is free and open to the public. Both visitors and residents are encouraged to attend to learn about how to keep the bears healthy and wild.
There will be special presentations by the TWRA and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Smokies BearWise Task Force, the City of Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg Police Department, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are partnering to host an Open House on educating the public and businesses on BearWise® practices.
Gatlinburg has been helping the National Park and TWRA since 1999 educate the public on safe ways to keep the bears from interacting with humans.
