(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – There’s a threat for strong storms on Wednesday across the Smoky Mountain area. These storms have the threat for strong winds, downpours and small hail.

Use the quiet time on Tuesday to move in some of those objects that could fly around in the wind. If you’ve already started to get spring set-up outside, think about taking down the garden flags, tightening umbrella stands and other yard decorations are secured or moved inside.

The storm threat is elevated to a category 2 west of Knoxville. This is stronger than the storm threat we had this past weekend. Showers and storms are expected across the region late Wednesday into the overnight.

The Tennessee side of the mountains will start to see the stronger storms after 6 p.m. on Wednesday and continue into the morning hours before coming to a close around 6 a.m.

Our North Carolina Counties of Swain and Haywood should prepare for strong winds and storms to start after 11 p.m. and last through 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Rainfall will produce a quarter to half an inch in places with isolated amounts closer to an inch.

The highest elevations of the Smoky Mountains will see snow. 441 through the Smokies will likely close.

Winds gusting to 30 mph are possible with some small hail.
