UPDATE – Crews with KUB have worked through the night to get power restored. Just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday there were more than six dozen homes without power.

In Sevier County, Sevier County Electric reports 10 customers without power.

In Swain and Haywood Counties in North Carolina, Duke Energy reports several hundred still in the dark this morning.

Crews continue to work on making progress to get back to 100% power Tuesday morning.

In most cases, downed trees have made it difficult to get everything cleaned up overnight.

Thousands remain without electricity in Knox and Sevier counties following Monday’s storms.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Storm Center) — Monday’s storms are leaving thousands of customers without power across East Tennessee.

According to Sevier County Electric System, 1,426 customers in Sevier County are currently without electricity following the storms.

In Knox County, KUB reports 4,938 customers without power out of 229,087 customers served.

That puts the total number of reported outages between the two utilities at more than 6,300 customers.

The outages come as strong thunderstorms moved across the region, bringing damaging wind gusts and small hail.

Downed trees and power lines can create dangerous conditions, and residents are urged to stay away from any fallen or damaged power lines.

If you encounter a downed line, do not approach it or attempt to move it.
