Missing eagles seen in the area, one captured

Sightings of Rockland have been reported in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area. Search continues for two missing eagles.

(PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The American Eagle Foundation said on Saturday evening that one of the missing American Bald Eagles from Dollywood has been found.

“We are incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support in our efforts to locate and secure Wesley and Rockland.  Input from those looking for our eagles helped us secure Caesar,” said Lori Moore with American Eagle Foundation.

The two remaining eagles are believed to be in the vicinity of Dollywood due to their limited flight ability.

Moore added, The American Eagle Foundation is actively engaged in efforts to secure Rockland.

“We have received numerous reports throughout the day and avian care specialists are in the area of Greystone Heights and Anakeesta tracking him. Foundation staff is fielding numerous calls regarding sightings. If callers are unable to speak with a representative, please leave an address and time of the sighting, note if you were able to see a black or orange band and provide a call back number.  All messages are monitored. Anyone in close proximity should not approach or feed the eagle,” she said.

Wesley is one of our missing bald eagles. She is a female bald eagle with a black leg band. Wesley can be recognized by a chronic shoulder injury that may affect how her wings sit at rest or in flight. These subtle differences can help distinguish her if spotted.

Rockland is a male bald eagle, he has a healed fracture in his right carpal joint (wing), and his right ulna is shorter than his left, leaving the wing displaced. Because of these injuries, Rockland is not fully flighted and cannot travel long distances like an uninjured bald eagle. He also wears an orange identification band on his left leg with the letters SK on it.
