(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A winter storm threat comes with increased confidence to impact the Great Smoky Mountains over the weekend. This includes accumulating-blowing snow and brutal cold negative wind chills.
Multiple alerts are up for the Smokies, including a winter storm warning.

Timeline CHECK THE RADAR ANYTIME
Friday – Areas of light snow start to develop after lunch, limited accumulations at first.
Overnight to Saturday – Widespread heavy, blowing snow with significant accumulations by daybreak.
Saturday – Blowing-accumulating snow continues across the area. This comes to an end for the exterior foothills, but continue to the foothills closest to the higher elevations.
Sunday – Snow lingers in the mountains, it’s mostly cloudy and very cold.
Accumulations
Accumulations will start to reach an inch after sunset, closer to 8/9 p.m. from Gatlinburg to Cherokee.
When we wake up on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. we expect to see several inches. Sevierville close to 5, Gatlinburg close to 8, Cherokee close to 7 and Maggie Valley close to 9.
Snow accumulates through the afternoon in the Smokies with Gatlinburg close to a foot of snow by Saturday 5 p.m. Sevierville, Townsend Dandridge will be close to 7 inches. In North Carolina, Cherokee will be close to 9 inches, Maggie Valley close to 10 and Bryson City close to 8 inches.
Aside from the snow, it’s a cold weekend. Seek emergency shelters if you have inadequate heat.
By Friday night, driving should come to a close as roads will become impassable. Have all supplies you need for up to three days.
